The History of Pieroth

Since 1675, Pieroth has lived the passion for wine with every fibre of it’s being. What started off as a family winery in Burg Layen in the Nahe valley in Germany is now recognised by wine lovers all over the UK.

With an extensive range from all around the world, we are regarded as a reliable authority on international wines. We have a selection to share with you from our vineyards all over the world as well as our local German wines from the Nahe region.

We have always respected our family values and use this to maintain close personal relationships with long term customers and vineyards, some of whom have been with us for decades.

1976

In 1976 an old glass tradition was rediscovered in the House of Pieroth. Many centuries ago, the glass produced in the Nahe region was often blue or blue-green in colour. This was caused by the cobalt in the sand which was locally mined and excavated for glass production.

Pieroth retrieved the idea and created a royal blue wine bottle which took the wine world by storm as “Pieroth Blue“.

2001

25 years after bringing the Pieroth Blue back, we had sold 25 million bottles; enough to cover the distance from Lisbon to Moscow!

2014

The family winery in Burg Layen now covers 25 hectares.

2015
