On 2nd February 1659, Jan Van Riebeeck (the founder of Cape Town) produced the first ever recorded wine in South Africa.

Whilst it is impossible to vouch for the quality of the 1659 vintage, we can vouch for the 2022 Chenin Blanc, also known as Pineau de la Loire in France and sometimes Steen in South Africa. It is believed that this is the same variety as grown by Van Riebeeck way back over 362 years ago.

Our Cape Root starts with the seductive aromas of ripe honeydew melon, pear and peach scents, leading to a fruity and clean aftertaste which will linger long in the memory. Its restrained grapiness is perfectly balanced with its fine fruity acidity and has resulted in a beautifully versatile offering.
